Disabled bodies can be and are beautiful. We don’t need to be hidden, ‘fixed’ or fit into other’s ideas of what ‘normal’ or ‘beautiful’ is. My body is beautiful as it is, in all its stiff, wonky and deformed glory.
Re-drawing resistance – Accepting myself and loving myself, existing as I am in a society that thinks we shouldn’t exist, is Resistance.

Can you hear me?
– The Inner Voice
R. Sneha

In the distance , i could see a blurred
image of a littel girl, dressed in blue
She looked lost and orphan
Her tousled and uncombed hair
Her vision so blurred of tears
Her tender hands shivering in fear.
Her feet so cold , denied any movement
Lips that denied to make a happy curve.
She looked so familiar but unknown .
She was still staring at me
From the distance.
I see her often
Those lifeless eyes, haunts me
What does she need from me?

R. Sneha

And i remembered that girl
She is closely associated with me
I called her and wiped off her tears.
I brought her to my house and made her feel home
Held her hands , allowed her to sit next to me.
I made her laugh making goofy faces.
I gave her toffees and toys
and the love she longed for.
We sang beautiful song loudly
And the dancing for the beat felt so right
I then tucked her in her bed
With warm heavy blankets
When its bed time , she whispered her story
I could see ,she was in constant fear ,
her voice was silenced
And her feelings were ignored,
She was unwelcomed in her own house.
Her body treated so very wrong and her soul too.
She cried and made me cry

I hugged her tightly and kissed her gently
She was hugging the fluffy doll
And slowly closed her eyes.
I slowly dimmed the lights
And watch her fall asleep.
Then i walked out the room turned back and saw her for one last time,
I, then closed the door slowly.
She was sleeping in peace.

I looked myself in the mirrow and smiled .
I felt strong, beautiful and human.
I felt healed and a peace
I was blooming in love
Dont you now remember who she is?
Listen to the silent whispers around you
You will know her too ,
And WILL KNOW YOU TOO

Labels!

All our life we’ve been carrying names/ labels/words which is not us or our identity. We always wanted to be something beyond all the labels and words. The labels and words pulled us and are still pulling us down, shattering us.
My words / labels will be with the empowering energy.
Words have the power to make you and break you!
Hope in change for a better life and better society lies in the powerful words.

Embers that grew into a fire
Pratheep Raj

All women should speak out against violence – for themselves and their loved ones. There will be a spark inside to fight and ask for justice. This society and family will continue to try and put out that spark. But do not allow yourself to extinguish it. Remember that your small inner spark can become a guiding light for many in the dark forest.

So, I have described traits which are toxic, yet normalised by society. Time to open up. Healthy relationship. It’s high time where society failed to accept inequality. This is the moment to respect everyone equally. And I am happy that I got my opportunity to express what I feel.

There are solutions to all kinds of problems. May everyone be happy. At an age we are meant to be learning, at an age when we don’t understand, love will change our lives. Art returned my life to me. I started to live wholly at a mental and physical level.

My Story

Of all the incidents in my life, I’ve witnessed parents abusing their children a lot. I’ve been caged inside my house. Only now I feel like a peacock, free for the first time in my life. Don’t lose heart, everyone. This artwork is for our heart’s desires to come true.

Change in my life
Anonymous

I’ve faced a lot of difficulties in life. I’ve always liked the police. It was once my goal to become one. But I don’t even wish to think of it now. The one thing I hate the most in my life is the police. The ones who traumatised me and hurt me with harsh words.
I will live my life and prove it to the police and everyone else who made my life so difficult. This is what my artwork represents.

Love is love. It may be any form, but all are love. We need equal respect as given to heterosexual couples. We are not rare or different. We are normal.

Women – Kintsugi (Japanese tradition that’s used to put broken ceramics by powdered gold and silver) – Patriarchy
Women are now aware of the patriarchy and are fighting for their rights. We all felt broken, helpless before. We weren’t allowed to talk for ourselves. The golden strings in the art represent that we are not broken/helpless and ready for our battles. Proud Feminists.

We think that everyone will come forward to help when a woman has a problem. The truth is that even if you are not wrong, the society will tell you that what you do is wrong when you are a woman.

Women should always be happy
Kamatchi. E

There is nothing that women can’t do. Women fish today, something only men used to do. Look how happy the women are in this artwork. If we keep crying, there are reasons to do so from birth till death. My tears have dried up with all the crying. Women need to be happy like the women here, fishing, singing songs, smiling and laughing.

Lockdown Stories
Kalpana. B

What I learned through lockdown was that before lockdown we used to get all the nescessary eatables outside and cooked ready to eat foods which are not healthy and hygienic. But during lockdown we learned to keep ourselves and our surroundings clean. This is the message that I wanted to convey via my art.

Why shouldn’t women speak up?
V.R. Baby

Greetings to everyone. This is my artwork reflecting on why women must express their thoughts and opinions. In the society we live in, since always, men’s voices and opinions have been validated and accepted as the norm. We exist just as women who are not allowed to speak up. But why do we continue to remain silent in such a society? Only when we speak up, will our needs be met and will we be given opportunities as well as justice.
